5 Unmissable Events Happening in Derry Soon


The first signs of Summer are appearing in the Walled City – the sun is shining, the Guildhall fountains have been switched on again, and there’s plenty of events coming up to keep you entertained all season long!

Here’s just 5 amazing events all happening in the district very soon:

1. Summer Jamm


Summer Jamm returns to Strabane this year from 9-11 June, featuring a dazzling line-up which includes headlining act – Blizzards (fronted by RTE’s ‘The Voice of Ireland’ Judge, Bressie), as well as performances by Irish Folk/Pop duo, Hudson Taylor, Ryan McMullan, who is lead support on Ed Sheeran’s SOLD-OUT European Tour this year and Roisin O, who has played support to the likes of The Coronas, Gavin James and Mumford & Sons.

2. Foyle O-bon

Foyle O-bon 2017 is an exciting new festival which celebrates Japanese Arts and Culture here in Derry-Londondery. The Playtrail on the Racecourse Road will be transformed into Little Tokyo on 10 June, with a whole day of activities and performances to enjoy.

Come along to witness the spectacle of Taiko drumming, traditional Japanese Bon Odori dancing and a magical lantern procession and take part in manga workshops, storytelling, martial arts and face painting and a host of other activities!

3. Hard as Oak


Hard as Oak is Ireland’s hardest 10km obstacle course challenge featuring over 50 man-made and natural tests for those willing souls ready to give it their all. Located in the picturesque Faughan Valley and incorporating all its finest features, this really is a challenge like no other! Obstacles include a terrifying cliff jump, slip’n’slide, gorge climb, swamp, mature woodland, walled gardens, rivers, trenches, stone stairways, open fields and a plethora of others built around this varied terrain. We’re exhausted even thinking about it!

4. Celtronic


Passionate about EDM? Celtronic will take place at various venues across Derry from June 28 – July 2 this year. The festival showcases all forms of quality electronic music, and this years line-up will feature mind blowing sets from the likes of Carl Craig, Ellen Allien, BEN UFO, The Black Madonna, Levon Vincent and many more!

5. Country Comes to City


Country Comes to City returns for it’s fourth year to Derry’s Ebrington Square! Don’t miss your favourite country music acts including Derek Ryan, Lisa McHugh and Barry Kirwan. The fantastic outdoor concert takes place on 1 July, and tickets are just £20.00. This is a fundraising event for Institute Football Club in conjunction with Marie Curie and City of Derry YFC.
