Celebrate the last month of summer by going to some (or all!) of these amazing events happening in Derry over the next few weeks:
1. Ulster Rally | 18-19 August
This year, the John Mulholland Ulster Rally welcomes contenders from the FIA European Rally Trophy (Celtic Cup), the MSA Prestone British Rally Championship and the Clonakilty Blackpudding Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. Stages feature the full breadth of Counties Londonderry and Tyrone with two regroups, one in the city’s Guildhall Square on Friday and the other in Strabane Town Centre on Saturday of the event. The city and town areas all allow close public access to drivers and cars and autograph sessions.
2. Foyle Pride | 19-26 August
Celebrate Pride in the Walled City! The jam-packed eight day programme celebrates love and equality in true Derry fashion. Taking place across various venues in the city, the festival showcases the city’s charisma, uniqueness, nerve AND talent through a wide variety of club performances, exhibitions, stand-up shows and much, much more! Don your best rainbow flag and copious amounts of glitter for the unmissable annual parade across the city, and let’s make it the biggest and best Pride yet!
3. City of Derry Guitar Festival | 25-27 August
The 15th City of Derry Guitar Festival is proud to offer an all-female classical guitar line-up and, for the first time, a middle eastern flavour with a special workshop on the Arabic Oud.
Wiktoria Szubelak, Isabel Martinez and Dominika Bialostocka will bring their very distinctive playing styles to Derry-Londonderry for a weekend of classical guitar workshops, masterclasses and ensemble. The amazing Amir-John Haddad makes a welcome return with his popular Flamenco Guitar workshop and a unique talk on the Arabic Oud, during which he will will demonstrate how to play the instrument and outline the influences it had on modern guitar music.
4. Walled City Pro-Am | 26-27 August
The largest event in this year’s PGA calendar, the Walled City of Derry Pro Am tournament, is set to take place in Derry-Londonderry on 26th and 27th August 2017. For the first time ever the two courses, City of Derry Golf Club and Foyle International Golf Centre, will be getting in on the action on both days. This will provide a larger number of competitors with the opportunity to put their skills to the test, while also promoting the local offering to a wide range of visitors.
