The City of Derry Guitar Festival, which takes place this weekend in the North West Regional College 25-27 August, will bring to Derry/Londonderry an array of world renowned international guitarists for a series of concerts spanning the genres of classical and flamenco guitar, and featuring the haunting sound of the Arabic Oud.

With an all-female classical guitar line-up the concerts will showcase some of the most talented guitarists of our time for two nights of fine guitar tunes. The series will kick off on Friday 25 August, 8pm, with an all classical Guitar Gala featuring performances by Wiktoria Szubelak and Isabel Martinez. Regarded as two of the leading guitarists of their generation Wiktoria and Isabel will present their diverse playing styles. On Saturday 26 August, 8pm, the World Stage concert will feature a solo set by Dominika Bialostocka on classical guitar with accents on the legendary Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, followed by Amir-John Haddad “El Amir”, who will bring the fire and passion of Flamenco and the sound of the Arabic Oud to the stage for an evening of haunting tunes.

Other performances will include the Student Gala on Sunday 28 August, 7pm, featuring solo and group performances by the students including a full band performing the music of Black Sabbath.
