It’s almost time for everyone’s favourite event in the Maiden City – Halloween! Nowhere does Halloween like Derry~Londonderry – here’s just 10 reasons why you need to visit the city for Halloween if you’ve never been before:

This year, Derry’s Halloween celebrations will run from 28-31 October – that means there’s plenty of action happening in the city over the full weekend before Halloween night. Keep following us on social media for the latest updates on the full programme coming very soon!

The atmosphere around the City during Halloween is truly unique – locals and visitors gather in their thousands on the streets, in the pubs, on the City Walls and everywhere in between. It really must be seen to be believed, so visit for yourself to experience it all and be part of it

4. Awakening the Walls

Back for this year is the outstanding supernatural animation trail on and around the City Walls. See light, fire, sculpture, music and performance rouse the Walls awake from 28-30 October – perfect for getting you in the Halloween spirit!

5. The costumes

The people of Derry really excel themselves when it comes to planning and creating their Halloween costumes! Take a stroll around the City Walls and you’ll see fabulous fairies, amazing aliens, and perhaps your favourite celebrity too!

6. There’s plenty of great places to stay

Whether you want to come back to a luxurious hotel at the end of the celebrations, or have the whole family stay together in a top-class self-catering apartment, there are plenty of options to suit a wide range of budgets and needs throughout the city – don’t delay in booking as beds fill up very quickly for the Halloween period!

7. The whole city gets involved

Among the major events taking place in the city centre, there’s also plenty of other local businesses that get in on the Halloween action. The Everglades Hotel will host a spooky afternoon tea and you can stay from £50.00pps!

8. The annual parade

Starting along Derry’s Queen’s Quay, this spooktacular parade on 31 October is not to be missed when celebrating Halloween in the city. See the finest carnival, circus and street performers as they make their way through the city centre in the largest Hallowe’en street carnival and costume party in Europe. Be sure to get there early to grab yourself a good space to see it all!

9. The firework finale

Following the street parade, the sky will be alight with colour over the River Foyle as we celebrate the finale of our Hallowe’en celebrations with our famous firework finale display
