Join Northern Ireland Opera on the day, from 4:00 to 4:30pm, for a glimpse into rehearsals of our upcoming production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, live from the Grand Opera House, Belfast. Presented by Marie-Louise Muir (The Arts Show, BBC Northern Ireland), this live stream will feature short performances and extracts from rehearsals, alongside interviews with the Cast and Creative Team.
BBC Arts Digital has brought together eight leading UK opera companies and major cultural institutions to work together on an unprecedented day of live streaming. Northern Ireland Opera will be one of eight leading opera companies from across the UK taking part in #OperaPassion Day, alongside the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, English Touring Opera, Opera North, Glyndebourne, Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera. Other partners involved include the Victoria and Albert Museum, BBC Radio 3, Tomorrow’s World and Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry, supported by the British Council.
Throughout the day leading opera companies will convey the excitement of the music, the passion of the artists and the emotion of the stories. Each organisation will contribute to #OperaPassion Day and an unprecedented day of live streaming offering never-before-seen access to the UK opera scene. The day will look to break down often perceived barriers in the opera world by showing the immense breadth of work that goes into every production. #OperaPassion is establishing a UK-wide opera network encouraging new partnerships between companies and a collaborative way of working to help opera flourish.
#OperaPassion day will conclude on BBC Radio 3, where listeners will have the opportunity to vote for one of four from four Royal Opera House opera recordings to be broadcast in full that evening.
