MILLENNIUM FORUM becomes a JAM Card Friendly Organisation

The North West’s leading arts venue has recently become the first JAM Friendly theatre in the region.

The Millennium Forum has demonstrated its commitment to its customers by taking part in training that will ensure its staff members are equipped to provide excellent customer service to people with learning difficulties and communication barriers.

Staff from Millennium Forum have recently taken part in JAM Card awareness training which provided them with the knowledge they need to ensure that users of the JAM Card feel welcome in their establishment.

The JAM Card, which stands for Just A Minute, is a social innovation from NOW Group an organisation that supports people with learning difficulties and autism into employment. It was their service users who said they would like a discreet way of telling people that sometimes they need a little extra time and patience. The JAM Card was created first as a credit card sized card and has recently been developed into an app for smartphones.

Diane Hill, Head of Business Development at NOW Group commented: “We are delighted the Millennium Forum has become a JAM Card Friendly organisation. We have over 8000 JAM Card users across the country who tell us they feel more relaxed and confident in customer service situations when they have their JAM Card. By undergoing this training the Millennium Forum are ensuring that people with learning difficulties, autism and communication barriers will feel welcome and receive excellent customer service in their venue.”

 The Millennium Forum has been leading the way in terms of accessibility in the Arts for a number of years. The Millennium Forum recently received an Autism Impact Award in recognition of its ongoing efforts in providing fully accessible experiences for all patrons.  Last year, the Forum was recognised as a Dementia Friendly organisation, winning the Dementia Friendly Organisation of the Year award. It held a Relaxed Performance of its Pantomime in 2013 followed by a dementia friendly performance in 2015.  In addition, the theatre has recently been recognised as a centre of excellence in providing accessibility by winning the Change A Little Change A Lot and the Arts & Disability Equality Charter awards.
